Vocal Range Test

Sing a low note and a high note into your microphone to find your lowest and highest pitch and the voice type your range is closest to. Audio is analysed in your browser and never recorded.

How to get a useful result

  1. Warm up gently. Sing "ah" or hum, not a whisper.
  2. Hold your lowest comfortable note for about a second, then your highest comfortable note.
  3. Stay on each note until the reading settles. Sharps and flats count, so any note name is fine.

Use headphones if you can: speakers can feed the microphone and confuse the pitch reading.

The microphone is off.

Voice type depends on tessitura and timbre as well as range, so treat this as a rough guide, not a verdict.

The microphone stream is analysed frame by frame in this page and discarded; nothing is recorded, stored or uploaded. Pitch detection uses autocorrelation and needs a steady note, so a noisy room or a very breathy tone may not register. The page must be opened over HTTPS (or localhost) for the browser to allow microphone access.

What Is Vocal Range Test?

The Vocal Range Test listens through your microphone, detects the pitch of a steady note and keeps the lowest and highest notes you can comfortably hit. It shows the note name, frequency and how far off centre you are, then turns the span into semitones and the voice type it is closest to. No recording is kept: each frame is analysed in the page and discarded.

Who Uses the Vocal Range Test?

Singers track their range before choosing songs, teachers give a quick placement estimate, and beginners compare their range before and after practice.

How to Use the Vocal Range Test

  1. Allow microphone access and hold your lowest comfortable note for about a second.
  2. Hold your highest comfortable note until the reading settles.
  3. Read the span and closest voice type, then reset to measure again.

Why Choose Our Vocal Range Test?

  • Shows note name, frequency and cents, not just a type label
  • Lowest, highest and span build up while you sing, so one page gives all three
  • Microphone audio is analysed and discarded, so nothing is recorded or uploaded
