Fibonacci Calculator

Calculate Fibonacci numbers, sums, squares and find the index of any term.

This page uses the 0-based convention F(0) = 0 and F(1) = 1, so the sequence starts 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, ... and the first n terms are F(0) .. F(n-1).

Indices up to 100,000 are supported.

What Is Fibonacci Calculator?

The Fibonacci Calculator uses the 0-based convention F(0) = 0 and F(1) = 1, and covers four jobs: the nth term with its two neighbours, a series of the first n terms, the sum of those terms and the sum of their squares, and a reverse lookup that gives the index of a value or tells you it is not a Fibonacci number. Terms are produced by fast doubling, which reaches a large index in a logarithmic number of steps instead of adding one number at a time.

Who Uses the Fibonacci Calculator?

Students and interview candidates use it to check sequence work and verify the two sum identities, while developers use it to sanity check Fibonacci-based algorithms, cache sizing and growth estimates.

How to Use the Fibonacci Calculator

  1. Choose a mode: Term for one index, Series to list the first n terms, Sums for the running totals, or Find Index to work backwards from a value.
  2. In Term, type an index into the Index n field and press Calculate Term; in Series, set How many terms; in Sums, set First n terms; in Find Index, type a whole number into the A whole number field.
  3. Read F(n) alongside F(n - 1) and F(n + 1), the generated series, the sum and the sum of squares, or the index that matches your value, or a plain message that it is not a Fibonacci number.

Why Choose Our Fibonacci Calculator?

  • Fast doubling runs in O(log n) steps, so an index in the tens of thousands returns at once
  • Every term is an arbitrary precision integer, so values past the 53-bit limit where ordinary floating point loses digits stay exact
  • The reverse lookup answers the question most calculators ignore: which index is this number, if any
  • The 0-based convention is stated on the page, so there is no argument about whether the sequence starts at 0 or 1
